Revolutionizing bike safety for riders everywhere.

The Smart Helmet aims to revolutionize bike safety by incorporating tail-light/indicator design directly into a helmet. Unlike conventional bike accessories that attach to the bike or backpack, this innovative concept places the safety features in the most appropriate and visible location - the helmet itself. What was Initially conceived as a pre-master project, now on the brink of becoming a reality.

Bike safety innovation

The Concept achieved significant recognition in 2017, being prominently featured in Yanko Design, a leading platform for innovative designs. Additionally, it was honored as one of the top 30 bike safety innovations by Trendhunter, a renowned trend-spotting website.

Design Process

Various methodologies such as Design Thinking, Double Diamond, and Lean UX are used. These methodologies were chosen for their effectiveness in fostering creativity, user-centricity, and iterative development. By incorporating these approaches, the project aimed to enhance the overall design quality, streamline the development process, and deliver a solution that truly meets user needs.

Design Thinking
Design thinking is a problem-solving approach that puts the needs and experiences of users at the center of the design process. It is a non-linear and human-centered methodology that aims to create innovative and effective solutions by understanding the users' perspectives, needs, and challenges. The process can be summarized in five stages: empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test.
Empathy
It is all about observing and researching all possible cross sections that could interprate meaning to our soultion from the perspective of people and the environment around us, prioritising human-centered features such as needs, instincts, emotions, motivations, furstrations, and so on.
Define
User needs and problems challenges opportunities intrnal and external factors context
Ideation
is about sketching and visualizing out abondance of ideas in order to explore, mix and match all types of solutions possible and map out the worst ideas, wild ideas and best ideas
Prototype
it aims to build a simulation that replicates a real product charactristics of the best ideas.
Test

Research summary

Cyclists' safety is paramount, and helmets are proven to significantly reduce head trauma during accidents. However, effective communication is equally important for cyclist safety. Communication enhances coordination between cyclists and reduces the risk of collisions. It also facilitates communication between cyclists and other road users, improving situational awareness. In addition ventilated helmets strike a balance between comfort and safety, ensuring proper ventilation while maintaining effective impact absorption.

Users

Through the implementation of empathy-driven design processes, including the creation of role-based personas and user stories observation and  empathy sessions, a comprehensive understanding of cyclists and their needs has been achieved. These tools have provided valuable insights into the motivations, challenges, and goals of different types of cyclists.

UX & Ui Design

The focus on UX ensures that the helmet provides a seamless and intuitive experience for cyclists, while the UI design ensures an aesthetically pleasing and visually engaging interface. Users touch points with the smart helmet is broken down into 3 parts ( helmet - mobile application - tactile control switch )

Our smart helmet design prioritizes safety, visibility, and comfort. It features integrated lighting indicators for enhanced visibility and improved communication between cyclists and motorists. The helmet is also well-ventilated, with multiple air vents and airflow channels, ensuring optimal comfort during rides. 2 . Mobile Application

The mobile app revolutionizes the smart helmet experience, motivating users to engage in sports and prioritize safety. It seamlessly connects cyclists through a community platform, offering leaderboards and gamification features. Additionally, it empowers users by providing control over helmet lights for various scenarios. With communication features and a focus on engagement, the app enhances the overall cycling experience.
